Signing up for an absentee ballot
All registered voters in Wisconsin can request an absentee ballot. You can do this for individual elections or for an entire year. The easiest way to do this is online at myvote.wi.gov.
If this is your first time requesting an absentee ballot, you will need to prove a copy of your photo ID. The easiest way to do this is to take a picture of your photo ID with your smart phone.

How to do your Absentee Ballot
Your absentee ballot will arrive in the mail in a large envelope. Inside that envelope you will find your ballot, instructions and a return envelope.
Read the directions. Then in the presence of your witness, show them the blank ballot and privately mark your ballot with blue or black ink. Put the ballot in the envelope and seal it.
Check that it is your name and address on the return envelope, then sign and date the envelope in front of your witness.
Finally the witness signs the envelope AND writes their address.
This last step is very important. The witness MUST do two things, sign and give their full address including the street, city, state and zipcode.

Return Your Absentee Ballot
ways to return your ballot
You can return your absentee ballot in three ways.
- Put it in the mail. Be sure and allow 7-10 days for your ballot to be in the mail.
- Take your ballot to your municipal clerk. DROP BOXES ARE NOT ALLOWED. You must take it in person when the office is open.
- Take the sealed ballot to your clerk or your polling location on election day.
If you return your ballot before election day, you can monitor your ballot at myvote.wi.gov. Your clerk will enter into the system when they receive your ballot. You could also call your local clerk.
